USATF National Club Cross Country Championships to Host Showdown Between Brooks Beasts and Hansons-Brooks Distance ProjectBy Adam Kopet When certain Brooks athletes toe the line Saturday for the USATF National Club Cross Country Championships in Spokane, Wash., there will be more on the line than just the club team win. A side bet between the Brooks Beasts and the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project will have repercussions for the respective team coaches. Should the Brooks Beasts win, Hanson-Brooks coach Kevin Hanson will run a mile wearing a Brooks Beasts singlet and spikes. Should Hansons-Brooks win, Brooks Beasts coach Danny Mackey will run a half marathon wearing a Hansons-Brooks singlet. Hansons-Brooks' 2018 team includes 2017 individual winner Ian La Mere and third-place-finisher Ryan Mahalsky. The Brooks Beasts are led by the strong cross country running skills of Garrett Heath. Both Dathan Ritzenhein and Shadrack Biwott will compete for Hansons-Brooks. Dillon Maggard and Ryan Vail will race for the Beasts, as well as a large portion of the Beasts' middle-distance runners.
