Early Saturday afternoon in West Chester, Ohio, Delilah DiCrescenzo won the biggest race of her life - the women’s 6-K title at the USATF National Club Cross Country Championships. Racing on a flat-but- slow/slushy/muddy course at Voice of America Park, the 2004 Columbia grad pulled away from Julie Culley in the last 200 meters to cross the line in 20:30.7. Now, her confidence bolstered by the victory and a strong fall training season, the 9:59 steeplechase runner (other PRs: 16:09.33, 5000; 4:40.77, mile) looks forward to a 2008 track season and a steeplechase appearance in the U.S. Olympic Track Trials in Eugene, Oregon. DiCrescenzo, 24, has been assistant track and cross country coach at Bryn Mawr University, just outside Philadelphia, since September 2006 and also volunteers for Shoe4Africa.com "to take some focus off myself." Oh, and there’s this other little distraction, too. She’s the subject of the Grammy-nominated, pop hit song "Hey There, Delilah" by the Plain White T’s. Click here to hear it at YouTube.com,  This guarantees that she gets recognized at meets for more than her front-running prowess.
